The closer you look at this rifle, the more you'll see that Ruger got it right with this one.  From the modular adjustable stock to the power bedded receiver to the free floated barrel, it's hard to believe Ruger can make a rifle with this many features at such a low price.

The first thing you'll notice when you take the rifle out of the box is that it feels like a real rifle, just a little smaller than its' centerfire cousins.  The rifle weighs 5.9 pounds out of the box, and points naturally.  While the stock sights aren't anything special, they are adjustable for both windage and elevation, and the Williams fiber optic front sight is bright green and easy to pick up in all types of lighting.  The receiver is also grooved for rimfire tip off scope rings (standard 3/8" groove), as well as drilled and tapped for a Weaver #12 top mount scope base.

The modular synthetic stock on this rifle is simply brilliant.  All too often it's impossible to get a good sight picture on a rifle because the stock just doesn't line up your eye properly with the sights.  To solve this problem, Ruger includes an extra stock module which has a higher comb, for use with a scope.  Swapping from the lower height (a good height for the included iron sights) to the taller height (intended for scope use) is as simple as unscrewing the rear sling stud, and swapping in the included stock module with a higher comb.  While they are not included with the rifle, shorter stock modules are also available to shorten the length of pull from 13.75" to 12.50" for smaller shooters.

Some of the best features of this rifle don't show up until you start shooting.  As soon as you pull the trigger, you'll notice the Marksman Adjustable trigger gives a crisp 3 1/2 pound (or so) single stage trigger pull, which is adjustable from 3-5 pounds (and even somewhat lower with a little trick you'll find in the Articles section).  The Ruger American Rimfire rifle also uses Ruger's excellent BX-10 and BX-25 rotary magazines (the same magazines as those used on the Ruger 10/22), so jams and feeding problems are largely nonexistent with this rifle.

When it comes to accuracy, Ruger has designed the American Rimfire rifle with all of the components necessary for precision shooting.  The hammer forged barrel is free floated, and the receiver is bedded to the stock using Ruger's patented Power Bedding blocks.  This system works extremely well to make sure the receiver is locked into place and nothing interferes with the harmonics of the barrel for the best possible accuracy.

Sling studs front and rear are also a standard feature, so whether you're looking at Smallbore prone shooting, Smallbore 3 position shooting, a CMP Rimfire Sporter match, or a Project Appleseed weekend, this rifle is set up and ready to go.  Ultimately this is an outstanding rifle at a great price point, and one you'll be proud to own.
